MM(21) was really dragging his feet transferring money from his savings to his checking account.  But I saw today that he transferred $1,800 over.  Probably leaves him with $1,000-ish that he will insist can last him through the school year (after he pays for that engagement ring).  I need to check in with him about getting his rental deposit back.  I haven't seen that show up in his account yet.

I looked up MM's college town weather out of curiosity and it is just as hot.  Ugh!  His region largely doesn't have A/C.  He's always lived on upper levels without A/C, but school starts in late September and the region is not that hot (close to the coast).  He's having a rough week, I am sure.

MH went to a free advance movie screening.  I attempted to attend one with him some months ago.  Maybe the first time since 2020?  It's gone very far downhill.  They were just sticking to the smaller theaters which only leaves the first couple of rows.  Maybe 20? seats and you have to get there many hours early to snag that.  The rest is reserved for press.  But MH got his first press pass today!  Re: his producer "job" that does not pay.  He would be happily paid in press tickets.  So this was a nice treat.  I don't think it was anything particularly exciting, but he will always say yes if it means more press tickets in the future.

103f?! In October? Where are you again? That is pure insanity. Where I am was roughly mid 70's today, it was fantastic. But seriously though, I am genuinely shocked there is no AC where your son is.

I also feel like the entire diamond industry is a DeBeers scam. I have voiced my concerns about that to my daughter before, while also admitting that it's just one of those institutions where it may be too entrenched for anything to change about it. My daughter, to her credit, says she personally swears off diamond, but is willing to compromise to her birth gemstone.

@Tabs - I am in California. It's record breaking heat. I saw yesterday it's the hottest it's ever been in October. As to A/C along the coast, it's never been necessary in the past. The weather is very mild year round.

When we left the Bay Area (about 30 miles inland) it was the same. Got a lot of benefit from the coastal fog. My MIL eventually got A/C after we had moved away. She told me that instead of a handful of 90F+ degree days, they were getting 15+ 90F+ degree days. & that might have been 15 years ago. It just continues to get worse. Now A/C is pretty normal back home. I expect it's at a tipping point where it is going to become more common along the coast. Not that the college landlords care, but if you can afford a $1 Mil home, you probably don't want to just sweat out the random hot days (that are turning into weeks at this point).

Who said anything about diamonds? 😁 I think you commented on my prior post about that. About the ridiculousness people think they need to pay to get engaged. This is a, "why would you assume that?" comment, but the truth is they bought a lab grown diamond. It's gorgeous. I knew zero about diamonds before. I googled a bit after seeing the ring. I guess lab grown diamonds are flawless. I give it to the diamond industry, that they are on their marketing game. Now they have to spin that the flaws are worth paying extra for. (Seriously, I know absolutely nothing about gem stones. The only reason my son even told me it was a lab diamond because I was ooohing and aaaahing over it. It's stunning.)

Wait, you didn't talk about diamonds? Am I seeing thing again? My bad. My brain is about as sharp as jello sometimes. Other times, it's literally thinking about wanting jello. Hahaha.

@Tabs, it was a fair engagement assumption. I'm kind of surprised they bothered with the fake diamond. That they bought a diamond at all.
