I just happened to come across this article, which had good information re: recent tax law changes:
I do have a couple of coworkers (one salaried) who have been giddy about the 'tax-free tips and overtime' since mid January. I think they asked me January 20th if that had been executed yet (they seemed to think it was already a new law).
I don't know, maybe the salaried guy is moonlighting somewhere else? The hourly guy has a more up/down work flow and so we kept him hourly to pay him accordingly re: spurts of overtime. But even that does not amount to much.
Anyway, I can tell they think that they will be exempt from payroll taxes re: overtime, and probably haven't figured out that it's only the "extra 0.5 pay per hour" that will be tax-free. I have the feeling I will bursting this employee's bubble very soon.
