Cali sent my refund!

January 29th, 2009 at 01:44 am

Boy, am I a lucky duck!!!!

State announced for sure it wouldn't issue refunds for tax returns filed this week or later. (Can't afford to pay them right now - delayed at least 30 days - but who knows how long).

Anyway, I got my taxes filed last Monday, after the announcement. I had the feeling I would get it, but wasn't 100% sure.

Well, my check arrived today!!!!!!!!!

Woohoo!

I got $550 for my savings account...

& yes, I lowered my withholdings. Whatever California. You don't want to issue refunds? Then I will just pay you less. I overpaid because Cali is a PITA to figure out so I just told my boss to wihhold $50 a paycheck. This year I decided $30. Yeesh.

Congrats! I'm so jealous. I got my W-2 on Monday. I doubled my withholdings and will send in an extra payment when I do my fall tax estimate if I have to. I'm so glad to hear some people are getting their refunds. I love California, but sometimes . . .

What a great feeling to get a tax refund - esp. when you weren't sure when you'd get it!

Wow! That was fast. Did you e-file?

Our appointment with our accountant is not until February 19th. We will probably have to pay anyway, my last year of self-employment, but hey CONGRATS!

    Yes, e-file.

Congrats! I've got our taxes done, but not submitted yet. I heard CA had increased withholding percentage last year during round 1 of The Great Financial Debacle. It makes it hard to adjust your withholding properly when the state keeps changing the rules mid-game. We are to get just a few hundred back, hopefully it will come sooner than later after we file.

My taxes have been sent in as well, but no refund yet. I hope I got them in soon enough that my refund is not delayed. And yes, I've adjusted my withholdings already. I'll keep an eye on it and hope to owe a little bit next year.

Just read an article after posting that the refunds are being frozen I believe today. So you lucked out Monkey!

I'm still waiting for W-2 from husband's old company. They suck. It was a horrible company to work for in every way imaginable. He DID get paid to be there, but it was about 50% of what he should (and now does) get paid. But he couldn't find anything else, so stuck with it. Last year they were late, too. I know the deadline is Jan 31, but what do you do about it when they're late?

Really, we're so glad to be done with them!

I'm thinking we won't get a refund, but I'm not sure. I tightened things up last year.

In general there is a 2 week grace period, of sorts.

You can complain to the IRS after Feb. 15th. Not that it matters much.

I'd personally file my taxes without the W-2, hehe. But you know, I could figure it out since I prepare a ton of W-2s every January. The companies do not have to file W-2s with the IRS until March so it's not like it really matters, if you KNOW what the numbers are.
