Camping

August 15th, 2011 at 08:38 pm

Well, this week is shaping up to be busy!

Plenty of fun busy - not just busy busy.

Actually, we have been planning to do this hike with my dad, but haven't made the time. I told him not to fret. We both had a ton of summer plans, and we certainly have little going on now that the kids are back in school. (My dad's been camping/hiking all over the state all summer!)

Anyway, my dad mentioned a camping site near this hike, and I told him late August would probably be good. That said, haven't made any plans.

So, now he wants to go camping this weekend. This weekend??? I looked at the place looks pretty nice (has bathrooms, running water, etc.). The campground is really close to this hike we wanted to do.

I also saw check in was 2 and check out was noon. Figured we could meet for lunch, drive in together, and cover dinner and breakfast at camp. We've been stocking up on tents and sleeping bags and all that stuff, but don't have much in the way of cooking. That said, my dad totally has the fire stuff covered.
I think we can handle a few hot dogs and granola bars.

IF it goes well, I want to try to go camping at the beach one night, with my dad. Assuming we can get a reservation. September would be the perfect time of year.

I suppose it's the beauty of where we live. We haven't commited to much camping because not sure of the best sites, and also not 100% prepared. We have been talking about camping near the family cabin because heard good things about the camp site. It's really bare bones though and going off to the cabin to cook dinner sounds pretty appealing. Wink Yeah - that's how we camp. Generally when someone else is cooking, or we can find a kitchen nearby...

So, this sounds like a good stepping stone. Camping for about 24 hours? 50 miles away? Sure, I think we can handle that. Even with short notice.

Expect more spectacular pictures!

Can't wait to see the pix!

I have lots of very fond memories of camping, although I'm not sure I'd still want to rough it. Still, so much fun to live wholly outdoors for a few nights. There's something so refreshing about it

My favorite part was the fun you'd have when you first checked in and being able to drive around to scout out the campsites and pick the very best one, which usually meant most private.
