This & That

**I did a small de-clutter this week. Found a $5 Starbucks gift card (I don't drink coffee) and so gave it to a co-worker who has been going through a really rough time.

I have no idea where it came from but I am sure I was just saving it for Christmas. (It might have been a Ting reward?)

As to the co-worker, it just seems to be crazy insanity this year. I wouldn't know where to begin with that, but it's the story of my circle this year. Death, near-death, natural disasters, etc. I am exhausted just thinking about it.

She was SO appreciative.

**We ran through all of our Ting credits so I guess we will have to pay the rest of the year. I would guess that we will probably pay about $180 for cell service this entire *year*.

**So, I wasn't really sure of the odds that we'd adopt this second cat (a stray we found). But it's been a couple of weeks? I think they odds are looking pretty good. The shelter is full and they are offering all pets for $0 for a while. We will have to go see how he was medically evaluated, etc., but if it looks good the final hurdle is getting two cats to get along. They are both pretty mellow and friendly and so I think it should be okay. But any tips are greatly appreciated. Growing up we always had 2 cats and none of them EVER got along. But in this case it's 2 indoor cats (less cat turnover since they don't run away or get hit by cars) and they are both of similar age (best that the shelter can guess anyway) and have similar personalities. They did meet when we found the stray and were surprisingly mellow with each other. I don't know how much I should read into that though. For my cat it was curiosity that took over. The other cat was just starving.

How lovely to gift co worker a Starbucks card which is undoubtably more appreciated because bad things had happened. It's so easy to feel overwhelmed and negative.

Thank you for taking rescue cat. It's so sad how many pets are euthanized because people don't have pets neutered or spayed. Our Pound doesn't hold animals more than one week or lower price, it's just a killing machine! Young families can't afford $ 200. - $ 300. for a pet!

You might be OK if they've met and didn't freak out instantly. The going wisdom is you lock the new cat in a room most of the time for a week or two, just letting the cats interact through a crack in the door, feeding them on either side of the door, occasionally locking the senior cat away and letting the new cat explore. Occasionally switch them out (lock the old cat in the new cat's room and vice versa) so they can be around each other's smell. If they're hissing and growling at first but it subsides, try some supervised visits.

It didn't really work for our first pairing (granted senior cat broke into new cat's room the first night while we were out and possibly terrorized her); after a week or two we let her out and they continued to stalk each other, hiss and bat at each other, though it was maybe getting better but then senior cat ran away, so we'll never know. With our new cat it worked a bit better, but our new cat just doesn't have a mean bone in his body and had no interest in fighting, so our current cat (who'd maybe been on the defensive because of what happened with the senior cat before he disappeared) eventually gave up fighting. Now they're getting friendlier and sometimes touch noses and she hardly ever hisses or bats at him.

That is so cool you're adopting the second cat. Smile I have no advice on how to help make sure they get along ... The one time I introduced a second cat into my household when I had Monkey, he (Monkey) didn't talk to me or sleep with me again until six weeks after second cat died. (Felv+, complications about a year after Rafferty adopted me.)

Well, the $0 adoptions were effective. The day I posted this the cat got adopted out. Frown We wouldn't have been able to adopt him until tomorrow. I so sad! But probably for the best. (I will check the local rescue groups just to make sure he didn't go to a rescue).

I am sure my husband and maybe even my cat are both thrilled, so it's for the best.
