Mega Winners

April 1st, 2012 at 04:58 am

From a logical and practical standpoint, I have absolutely no use for several hundred million dollars. Apparently, I am alone in this sentiment. Probably comes largely from my line of work. {I've mentioned how people fight over the smallest amounts of money - it's just sad - I know life would never be the same if I had that kind of money - people treat you different - generally not nicely}. & did I mention the logistics?

OF course, If I was deep in debt or something, or unemployed, I am sure I may feel it was worth a shot!

Needless to say, I did not play.

BUT, I had to share that someone in our neighborhood apparently did win the $227k-ish prize. 5 out of 6? I wouldn't be surprised if it ends up being someone we know - is a pretty tight-knit community.

Will see!!! Someone bought the winning ticket at our grocery store. So unless they were just driving through... Will see if they release their name to the media, or speak about it around town.

Now, winning $227k sounds much more manageable and useful to me. Woohoo!!

So was anyone on SA the lucky BIG winner??? Wink

I totally agree! I wouldn't want millions and millions... just a few hundred thousand. I'd only want enough to pay of the house, stash away enough to pay for college for all the swimbabies, and maybe a tad more to fund a few vacations and make some very generous donations to organizations that I support. But forget the millions. Taxes and complications!

With millions I'd want to set up endowments to support our favorite charities/causes. Certainly wouldn't need to worry about life insurance policies or saving enough for college or retirement. I guess you'd be trading one worry for another. Not enough vs. too much?
I agree with you that winning "second place" would make me pretty darn happy too.

Well, having two inheritances in the thousands and thousands (not millions or billions), I have an idea of what one is up against. Sudden money is a little like sudden change in weight; you think "how bad can it be?" but you find that it makes every move millions of times more complicated. I bought a ticket for giggles - did not get a single number.

I didn't play either. Just not something I think much of, or pay any attention too. I, too, know through the grapevine of friends a big lottery winner and it does come, at least initially, with it's share of negative consequences.

I'd be happy with that smaller win of $227K!

I have no use for mega millions either. I did not play.

I wouldn't want that much money....it is just way too much for one family. DH and I were kind of bummed there were only 3 tickets sold....hoping like 50 people would have end up having to split it. That's not to say I couldn't use a little bit of it though Smile
